What projects can my child do in 4-H?

Typically, there is no limit as long as you can find a club that offers the area of interest! For a list of what 4-H offers, and what projects are offered in clubs in Pima county. click here.

Cornerstones 4-H club currently offers: poultry, pigeon, cavy, rabbit and Lego/robotics. Click our projects page for more info!

How much does 4-H cost?

Well it really depends on the project you chose, and how much you want to put into it. For example, if you want to participate in poultry and want 4-6 chickens, you’ll need to buy a chicken coop, chickens, feed and any accessories to accommodate those birds. After your initial set up is complete, there is a club fee ($10/kid for Cornerstones, all clubs are different) that covers costs of our building rental for meetings. If you’re planning to sell an animal in the Pima County Fair, you’re required to take a course called Quality Assurance. That class is $12 online, or $3 in person (Cornerstones will be hosting an in person class at the end of the year). Most of the poultry shows have very low entry fees if any at all. Those can range anywhere from $1/entry or up to $5,6,7 depending on the show. Showing is NOT required but encouraged! So, depending on the project your child wants to do and what things you’ll need to buy up front for that project, it really can vary.

4-H Has an enrollment for of $20 per member. This is separate from our club fee.

What kind of time commitment is there?

We will have community meetings (for the entire club) the second Friday of each month. They’ll be from 4:30pm - 6:30 pm, sometimes earlier.

Each project will have their own meetings to work on/practice their individual requirements and showmanship, knowledge etc. Poultry meetings will be after community meetings, the other projects will meet on different days TBD by the project leader.

Extra practices may happen but aren’t required.

The Fair will have mandatory work days in April, a day to set up projects in Old Pueblo Hall and each project has its own requirements. Most animal projects will have their own check in day, herdsmanship (feeding/watering/caring for animals), barn duty requirements (being in the barn for a couple of hours to watch the animals and educate the public), and show days. The fair lasts for 10 days total and depending on how many projects you do, you may be at the fairground a good part of that time. We would advise to speak to the project leaders for details about the expectations

We will have a couple of fundraisers. One is usually web based and one in person.
